My Accidental Meat Haul
« Reply #-1 on: May 03, 2020, 10:41:27 AM »
I love it when this happens.  We had planned on making the trip to Costco this week to get some meat.  Needed a brisket and butts.  Went to Piggly Wiggly today to get some fresh veges and sour cream.  Just "happened" to walk past the meat counter and they had a good looking choice grade brisket for $2.99/lb.  They very seldom have briskets.  Further down was a real surprise.  Pork butts for .99 cents/lb.  Hadn't seen that price for quite a while and certainly didn't expect to see it anytime soon with all the news about meat processing plants shut down due to the virus.  So we have 17 lbs of brisket and 20 pounds of butt along with veges and sour cream. :P

I need to have a few of those accidents! I had a chest freezer full of meat, that is until I accidentally unplugged it :(

I lost 2 prime briskets, 2 turkey breasts, 3 racks of baby backs and 2 butts. Not to mention food savered stuff. It made me sick!

What a shame, how did you accidentally unplug a freezer?

Got an email from Costco:

Fresh meat purchases are temporarily limited to a total of 3 items per member among the beef, pork and poultry products.

Hope this doesn't become another new normal....

Our Sam's store has a limit of 1 per customer on all beef items...

The Sam's I went to on Saturday had "One Per Customer" on ALL meats but THEY had a lot of it. Cases were full. They had two or three different kinds packaged chicken breasts but still "one Per" on each. Of course they were different prices. Boneless pork loin was at a good price of $1.47 a pound at Costco last week.
Oh, and the Sam's actually did have chicken thighs with about 16-18 in each package but again one per customer. I'm tempted to go back to that one. I may check one of the more local ones first.

Kroger's had pork butts @ .99 a pound yesterday, but when I got there (at the location nearest to me) they were out.
I then visited Sam's, & picked up a 2-pack @ 1.99 a  pound.
I also had to go across town to pick up meds for my puppy. The vets office is in the center with another Kroger's location so I slipped in to check them out for butts. They had a full case so I picked up two. They had a limit of only two items combined total of pork products .
The Kroger butts were not as nice as the butts from Sam's, but they definitely were worth the price.

I was is Daphne AL Sams saturday. They had lots of ribeyes, whole sirloin roast, Stacks of briskets( I've never seen so many there), some hamburger meat and What I call mexican ribs... thin cut across the bones.
There was plenty pork in the bins.   Lots of various chicken.
All one each though.  I really don't see why with the size of the brisket pile and amount of ribeyes.
I also went into Rouse's because I wanted a whole filet and thats what Sams didn't have. Rouses was fully stocked with everything and you can buy as much as you want. Their beef prices were better than normal...
