Cowboy Coffee
« Reply #-1 on: September 17, 2020, 06:55:21 AM »

Last night I accidentally hit the coffee pot in the coffee maker and broke it. Aside from having to clean up the broken glass I was more pissed about potentially not having coffee to drink this morning. We have a Kuerig but I'm not a big fan of it. Being up early this morning due to the dogs wanting to go outside I decided to make some cowboy coffee. No, I have never made it before and I don't have one of those old camp style coffee pots just hanging around the house. I used a regular pot and dumped the coffee grounds into the boiling water. So since Cowboy Coffee is really strong the trick is to boil this hot and for a while to get rid of the acids that make it so tart/bitter and cause indigestion later. After boiling a bit you add cold water to make the grounds sink to the bottom but I still have the fine mesh filter to the coffee maker so I just strained it to keep it from cooling down.

The end result looks pretty darn strong as in black as molasses and it even has an almost thicker viscosity to it. Lol... After one sip I love it! It's as smooth  as you could get in some highfalutin coffee shop in New York city.

I'll go out today to get a new replacement later this morning. I'm also thinking about getting one of those camp style coffee pots for a little change up once in a while. Thinking about cutting the grass here while we're still getting a nice breeze and somewhat lower temperature outside this morning so may be midday before I do that.

When camping with an available camp fire, I remember using a stick from the fire and plunging it into the coffee mixture.  All the grounds sink to the bottom.  You also get that wood flavor into the coffee.  This was an old Boy Scout trick.

Get a moka pot.  A 6 cup one will make 2 cup of coffee.  They are great.   And they don't break.   A fantastic cup of coffee.
