Reminds me of a book I've read about and want!  "Manifold Destiny" a book about cooking various really good meals in your engine compartment by placing different items in specific areas for set times while on road trips. Your dinner is ready when you arrive. How cool is that?

Cross Country trip early 70's in a 58 Volvo. Many a hot meal with Dinty Moore and cheap dinner rolls cooked under the hood.

in the service we use to cook grilled cheese off the manifolds of the diesel engines from the ships.  only when the chief wasn't around.   :o
