Creating a graph using the Tappecue
« Reply #-1 on: December 02, 2013, 02:31:13 PM »
Muebe (Mike) asked if I could do a write up on how to create a graph using the data from the Tappecue.  I don't know where to stick this so I am putting it in the General topic and I am sure it will be moved to the proper place.  Here is a write up on how to graph a cook.  If it is confusing please let me know and I will try to make the instructions a little better.

When you finish your cook you need to send the data by email.  You do this by using your smart phone or iPad.  When you receive the email you will find that the data is in txt format.  Save this file to your desktop.

If you have not downloaded the graph download from Tappecue you need to do so.  Go to http://www.tappecue.com/#!downloads/clzo and download the graph.  Click on the Red box that has Graph.  This will download an excel sheet that has micros that is used to generate a graph.

After the download, open the graphing.xlsm file.  This will bring up the spreadsheet that has the micros.  You need to enable the micros to make the sheet work properly.

Just above the data fields you will see….Security Warning…micros have been disabled and a box saying options.  Click on the options.

Another box will pop up and you click on the radial saying….enable this content.

Then you push and hold the control key, push and hold the “shift” key and push and hold the G key.  Important to do this in order as you are starting the micros.

Once you have done that you will be asked to choose the file that you want to import.  Pick the file that you just saved to the desktop.  The data will be inserted into the spreadsheet and the micros will take over and it will create the graph.  This may take some time for the graph to generate so just be patient.

Once you have the graph you rename the graph and save it to your cooking file.  It is also important not to save your new graph with the original graph’s name.  If you do, then you will need to download the graph again for the next cooking graph that you will be creating.

I run an iMac and I have not been successful yet in getting it to work with Office 2007 for Mac.  I run parallels so I can run Windows 7 and use Office 2007 excell and the graphing works just fine.

I really appreciate this write up. I am lost when it comes to using Excel.

The control, shift, and G key is something I did not do. Somehow I made a graph but it looked nothing like yours. Next long cook I will give this a try ;)

I like the idea of having a section were we could look for tips regarding "how to do" something.

Can one of the moderators move this to the Pellet Grill Outfitters area and make it a sticky? Since Eric carries this in his product line I think it would be very helpful to others... Thanks.
