A Post-Christmas Big Ol' Bowl of Gumbo
« Reply #-1 on: December 26, 2015, 09:45:05 PM »
The past few days were hectic! Lots of fun but I was kept busy. The kids left early this afternoon,  and it got quiet in a hurry! So, after a nap I started on making a gumbo using a smoked 1/2 chicken, kielbasa, the holy trinity, okra and a few different dried peppers. Wow just what the doctor ordered!  Gumbo has a way of putting everything back into perspective!  ;) Served with a couple dollups of basmati brown rice,  a few slices of sourdough wheat buttered ala Smokin Don-style, and a few Winter Lagers. It was a cool rainy day outside but spirits were high inside! 8)

Boy oh Boy - That looks like what I needed after shoveling our first real snowfall. More snow coming, I see some of this in my near future. Looks delicious, Gene!

This would've been good for you today David! I took a chile guajillo, a chile mulato, and a few chile arbols. Rinsed off, and cobvered with 2C boiling water and let them sit (while I napped)! Later they were chopped and thrown in the mix, the chile liquor was strained and added in as well. The gumbo was perfect, not hot but with a great warming feeling.

Oh yeah! I made some notes on the print out of your original post. Thanks!

Just returned home from the grandson's house.  Your gumbo looks great.  It is in the mid-70's right now.  I am going to put on my shorts.  When the weather gets colder, I may have to make a batch of gumbo.
