Why won't my kids eat?
« Reply #-1 on: March 08, 2013, 06:00:37 PM »
My kids are tough.  The boy says he only eats kid's food not grown up food, which he says is peanut butter and jelly, cereal, and dinosaur oatmeal.  The girls just changes daily.  I was making spaghetti and meatballs tonight, cause she will normally eat that, but tonight she informed me she no longer likes spaghetti.  Arrrggghh!    Hey I have an idea....I saw some posts recently about what I call hairy hotdogs.  I'll make that.  Upon putting it on the table, the boy says "I don't like that" and won't give it a try.  The girl thought it was awesome so she ate two before declaring that she doesn't like them.  Guess it's back to the drawing board.

I feel your pain. My son basically only likes the following:

PB&J
PB& Nutella
Happy meal with nuggets
Corn dogs
Chicken wings......sometimes
Red apples.....not green
Oranges
Waffles
Cereal
KFC
Cheese pizza......sometimes

Pretty sure I got zero return on the thousands I spent on food therapy.......

In our house, they HAVE to try the "new thing" before they can have the "alternative"

No "try", go to bed hungry.

and it might just be there for breakfast. And yes, they have called that bluff only to be staring at last nights dinner all over again.

I try not to feed my kids.  They stay longer and I want the little b@st@rds out of here.  My wife likes them.  Go figure?    ::)

Grew up that way. I tried and failed this in my own house. My dad had "that look" at which point you knew you were toast.

I remember basically sitting all night at the table when mom made split pea. Hate that stuff.

He he, I got a good chuckle out of that because that's exactly how my daughter is... STILL!  And she'll be 18 in a couple months!

LOL! Same thing here. I have a 13 and 9 year old. I live when they inform me that they don't like something anymore. ???
My son to this day will not eat mashed potatoes but will scarf down oatmeal. He says that mashed potatoes feel funny ???

There are a plethora of reasons.

Sometimes it is about control, other times it is more about texture than taste.

My 21 year old eats just about any and/or everything that isn't nailed down.

I'm a very liberal kinda dad in many ways...and my son's mom was WAAAAAY too indulgent with Max about food. When he came to live with me during his difficult middle school years it was pretty simple. Max - this is what I made for dinner. Oh - you say you don't like it? OK...let me show you to the kitchen.  He either learned to eat that which was presented or he knew he had to make something and clean up after his-own-self.

he became a dang good cook

I'm looking forward to those years Barry, but they're at 5 and 3 right now.  Unleashing them in the kitchen would yield a plate of cereal and cookies.

Second on this one.  Mine are 12 & 17, do just fine today.  But it wasn't always that way, typical as near as I can tell.  Let them make their own meals, actually kinda fun!

Well mine are 2 and 4. My 4 year old eats toaster sticks, chicken nuggets, quesadillas, gogurts and that is about it.

She does love the smoked chicken legs I make though ;)

I got three girls. 8,4,2. And one boy 4 months.

My 8 yr old says she loves pulled pork and meat in general.

The 2 yr old gets me when the maverick alarm goes off saying " Daddy BBQ"

All the girls eat veggies. They have a Thai grandma so they also like this food and spicy food

Ironically my kids won't try peanut butter  and the oldest does t like chocolate but they line up for ribs

Just today, My 9 YO girl baulked at - of all things - sesame seeds on a bun. We were all like, "seriously?".

It seems she had never experienced these before. She started picking them off, and it was "put the bun down, and slowly back away"

After some caterwauling, she ate it and admitted it was good.
