I am working on a country song based on a co-workers divorce. When he came back to work after the court date I asked him how it went he said "She took everything I had and didn't even leave me no eye water to cry with".

Y'all all may not know it but our beloved Don (IR2dum) was a member of the Geezinslaws.  Now you know why there was never any video and only audio of that group. ;)

Does anybody remember Joe Ely......kinda like Dwight Yokam and Steve Earle, but he never quite made it. He opened up for Linda Ronstadt way back when and he was so good, we got tickets for the next night to see him again.

His best song:  "mustanottagottalotta........sleep last night".

Don, That Vince Gill was great.

David,  I have some LPs with Johnny Horton.  What a great voice.  Another great voice some of may remember is George Hamilton IV who has a voice as smooth as cane syrup.  He sang suc songs as "A Rose and a Baby Ruth" and "Abilene".

I've got hundreds of record albums I've picked up at estate sales and flea markets.  You get some really good old classic country and western at estate sales because of the age of the deceased.  Boy, if my folks have an estate sale when I go do some cookin' in the sky, someone is going to get a deal on my records and books.  Shoot, I may even come back and buy some.

Just a personal trivia thing...

In the the picture of Johnny Horton - you the the station call sign in the background? KWKH is in Shreveport LA. Not far from my last home in Texas. It is a 50,000 watt AM station. The largest output allowed by the FCC at the time...maybe still?
It is the station that put on the Louisiana Hayride program on Saturday Nights. This is where Elvis Presley was introduced to the world by Frank Page. Other stars that got their big shot - and fame - due to their appearing on KWKH were folks like Kitty Wells, Hank Williams ( the REAL one...) and many more...

LA Hayride was noted for giving young or previously un-heard of talent an opportunity to launch their careers. These are folks that the conservative thinking Grand Ole Opry in Nashville would never consider, and - often had already rejected.

End history lesson..... ;D

Ralph Emory....I have not heard that name in a long time - but you are right Smoke. He is a "king-maker" in C&W music.

When I was in Viet Nam, Armed Forces Radio had the Ralph Emery show on at 4am and I always pulled radio watch at that time so I could listen to that program.  Dee
