Cooking deck
« Reply #-1 on: August 01, 2015, 10:53:45 AM »
In September I'm going to finish my cooking deck at Lost Arrow Hunting camp.& trying to assemble the pieces .
We built the main structure in May . It's 16 ft X 12 ft.
So far I've got $550 in materials & $150 for a 2 bag crawfish boil & 3 cases beer to pay for labor ::)
Still got to buy a SS prep sink, SS prep table .
I will have lighting & water. I got a portable tankless hot water heater so will have hot water!
Deck will not have rail but a 2 in raised edge to keep the cookers , table etc from rolling off the edge.
The deck is between my cabin & the lake , we're going to thin the trees to improve the view.
Between the deck & the lake I'm going to make a fire pit out of patio pavers.
Here's the real question !!!
I have all the cookers , my old gasser, a charbroil CB 740 ( a really good charcoal grill)& my camp-chef, don't need a smoker because the camp has the stick burner.
The SS table shipped is $200, 24in X 48 in. I can get an Akorn on a cart with a 26in X 26in work area for $ 260 delivered to HD!
Don't need it but living with a slightly smaller prep area & getting a good cooker for $60 is tempting  ;)

I'd go with the Akorn myself, but only because I already use one and like it.

I would go with the Akorn. Can always get a prep area.
Why couldn't Noah have swatted the 2 mosquitoes?.

Looking good!

For me - I have plenty of ways to cook (not saying more wouldn't be nice...  ::) ::) ) However,  NEVER have enough prep space. My deck is on the lower level of my house while the kitchen is two "floors" up. So, I am constantly having to take things back and forth, fight with the dog(s) going in and out, etc.

I realize this is not your layout - but, just sayin' I like a nice amount of prep (pre & post cook) space right where I am cooking. If I had to give up a cooker to get a decent prep area, I think I would - not sure which...  ??? I really like your sink and hot water solution!

That's going to be nice, it's always good when you can design and set things up the way you like to work.

I like where this is going.  The final setup will be great.  Where is your ice maker going?

That's a good start LA. Now let's see it finished with all the bells and whistles that a "hunting camp" needs.

That's a good start LA. Now let's see it finished with all the bells and whistles that a "hunting camp" needs.
Been buying a little every month, easier to HIDE ::)
Waiting till Sept to finish ( too hot to get anyone to help)
Got lectricity, water , a portable propane fired (20 lb tanks) tankless hot water heater.
Got two outdoor oscillating mister fans ( used)
Putting up two 30 watt LED outdoor spots.
Fire pit will be a group effort, going to tell everyone when pavers are on sale for less than $1 to buy 20 & bring down 8)
Newest cooker is 7y/o but all work well.
