Title: BK's Flame Grilled Hotdogs
Post by: Smokin Don on April 14, 2016, 01:12:09 AM
Apr 13 2016

Since Ka Honu was kind enough to try one of Burger Kings Angriest Whoppers for us I decided to try their Flame Grilled hotdogs. I didn’t feel like cooking tonight so ask the wife if she would get carry ins from Burger King; I wanted to try their grilled dogs.

I do get hungry for a good chili dog with onions once in a while. I always want it to taste like the ones I remember from the B&K Root beer stand in Van Wert, OH. It never seems quite as good!

I got one Classic with, mustard, ketchup, onions and relish and one Chili dog with chili and cheese. My wife got a bacon cheeseburger and we shared a med. French fries. My wife took half the bun off of hers to eat and the little beef patty was pitifully small; maybe she got a Jr.

Mt two hot dogs did come in little tubs in individual paper bags. The condiments on the classic were not applied as neat as the one in the advertisement photo but it was all on there. The chili dog did have enough chili on it but was a little skimpy on the cheese. I thought the chili was bland. As far as being flame grilled it didn’t taste any better than one nuked in the microwave!

I guess if I want a char grilled hot dog I will have to do it myself! I don’t think I will be running back to BK for more soon!

Sorry for the poor quality of the advertisement photo; the best I could find.

Same here (X4) was probably no better then a dog at met-life stadium for $10.00 ??? ???  & they want to know why we all tailgate. ;D ;D ;D ;D

Every year I try one dog at the stadium....One year the roll just fell apart like an Egyptian mummy in my hand.

I called to complain & explain my experience that past game with one of their staff. I was nice but the guy on the phone could not give a $hi_ about it. He was like who are you to say that.

I then explained to him that we produced & sold hot dog rolls at one time. I told him we had won some awards for quality over the years. There were 110 bakeries around the world & we came in first in quality some years. Well the next year I tried another & it was the same.....The bigger they are most of the time they just don't care.  When we served Burger kings at one time all they cared about was price, & how they looked....Taste did not mean a thing to them & that is what you have today.

Now in my area the best commercial hot dog roll by far is Martins potato rolls. I would love to try one of Pam's homemade rolls sometime as I am sure they are great

Hey..I saw my name mentioned..thanks ..homemade is best any more..gotta get me one of them hotdog pans from King Arthur Flour..but making them by hand is so easy. I make huge hamburger buns for my 10 -12" pork tenderloins..only place I can find them. I love to bake and usually mix them up in my bread machine. Then shape and let'em rise and then bake. So easy to do. Thanks for the shout out.   .☆´¯`•.¸¸. ི♥ྀ.

Yep, Don you are dead on.   I could get more char-grilled flavor using a blow torch then they did using their flame broiler  ??? ??? ??? ??? ???

Don - You're a braver man than I. I may have risked the angriest burger but never could have gotten up the courage to face down the dog (and never would have even considered letting it in to my own home).

Leave it to fast food to screw up a hotdog

Likely just one of the reasons we can't even find BK's in our area any more - they are all out of business.  Thanks for the review Don.

I don't eat hot dogs a lot, but I like the good ones, Tony Packo's or Hebrew National. They are great over an open fire. I stick a skewer thru it and then take a knife and spiral cut it so there is lots of surface area to crisp, than add lots of stuffs on top. My homemade sauerkraut is killer with hot dogs..I'm ready for camping..just sayin.   .☆´¯`•.¸¸. ི♥ྀ.

Don, Tammy tried a couple of the new grilled hot dogs from BK too, and she agrees with your assessment. She didn't care for them and, like you, said she wouldn't be getting any more.

Why are we upset when we order "corporate food" and it tastes like "corporate food"?  :o

my pics weren't on photbucket so here goes.
I shredded cabbage on Kitchenaid big food processor, took about 15 minutes total. Put in big rectangular plastic pan for sausage making..sprinkled with 3 tbs pickling salt...it has NO chemicals in it, mashed it down several times then packed into my gallon jar, I put a ziploc bag of water in it to hold under the water I added the lid with bubbler on it. Set it in a ss bowl because it will bubble over the 1st week.
When it sat for 6 weeks I brought it to a boil, packed in canning jars, wiped the jar real well and added lids and turned upside down and let sit overnight..Done.
