Please end this boxing match soon

Can they please put a fork in this over hyped match. Let's see Floyd gets 200 million win or lose. And by most accounts he is a USDA prime dirt bag.  Manny gets 133 million win or lose. And most accounts have him as a decent guy.

I used to like the big fights in the late 80's and early 90's. But this has just gotten out of hand.

Rant over.....back to my corner.....no offense to boxing fans.

I think they should fight over a bowl of green peas. And the winner eats them......

I agree 200% Pappy.  This is being billed as the "the fight of the century". Woop de doo 15 years into the 21st century. Both of these guys are well past their prime yet they are called "greatness"?  Did nobody hear of Frazier vs Ali? Or how about Hagler vs Hearns? This fight is a good time for a nap!

In my youth I thought that by the 21st century we would have eliminated "sports" where the object is to damage the opponent, possibly permanently.

I have an idea.  Let's conduct the matches in an open air coliseum.  Let's give each contestant a hatchet.  No, wait...how about one has a sword and shield and the other has a spear and maybe a net to throw.  The paying audience could use their keypads to vote on whether or not the vanquished fighter lives.  Or maybe they could just display a hand sign.

I am a huge boxing fan. This was a fight 5 years too late. Both men at the end of their boxing careers.

Fight sadly went how I thought it would.

People were paying not to watch the fight but witness Mayweather lose. I was one of them.

Manny tried to box technically with Mayweather. Bad decision. He needed to smother Mayweather with punches the first 5 rounds to force Mayweather to open up. Instead Manny got picked off by a jab from distance. Same Mayweather. Nothing different or really exciting. He does just enough to win. He always has.

He even said that he was better than Ali... Not even close.

I should probably come clean too muebe : My Grandfather was a hard knuckles brawler in the early days of the depression - in order to feed the family. He was good...A promoter saw him, and put him under contract. He was the Middle American States champion for several years during the 1930s.

He taught us ( 3 grand sons ) to box. But he was a "sportsmanship" oriented man. You put all in  - in order to get all out of your efforts.

Yet - I see the irony of pugilistic endeavors, as does Paul......there is something about us as a species that derives a pleasure front he caveman-like physicality of some sports....I don't deny it - nor am I ashamed of it....But it is a curious thing isn't it?

Muhammad Ali is considered by many to be the best fighter of all time.  I wonder how many of us believe that he has Parkinson's Disease.  Take a minute and research dementia pugilistica.  Note the reference to Parkinsonism, or tremors, lack of coordination, speech problems and an unsteady gait.

There have never been many boxers from wealthy families.  I think it's another way advantaged people take advantage of the disadvantaged.

I'll listen to arguments from those who don't agree.

The first reply I wrote I did not post because I would probably get the ban stick. So I deleted it and wrote this. And this will be my only response on this subject.

Let me just say as a fan of boxing you are so way off base IMHO. And if my son wanted to take up boxing, play football, join the military or whatever I would absolutely encourage them.

I believe that honorable people can disagree honorably.  But, I sense that like religion and politics this is an emotional issue best discussed elsewhere, if at all.

We all are adult enough here to express our opinions without offending others....aren't we? Try THIS: If you have an observation to make, state it as such, perhaps with a pre-emptive apology *IF* what you say is apt to offend someone. AND...avoid statements which are "judgmental".  ( Such as anything that calls into question another person's intellect, or ability to grasp the finer points...just one example...)

Thank God we do not all think alike. Let's try to remember the value of differing opinions - in that we have entrée to more than our own empirical viewpoint this way ....After all - how boring would it be if we simply all liked the same things?

Now - shake hands, and come out of your corners NOT fighting....
