New gas grill under $600 Weber or bust? Help!
« Reply #14 on: July 01, 2016, 03:45:29 PM »
I rebuild old Weber gassers.
Unless the firebox cracks or the frame rusts they are 20 year cookers.

Excellent work!!! So, do you pick up for close to free, restore and flip? Or has your yard been taken over by restored Webers?  I've seen some pretty serious Weber collectors over the years ;)

I was wondering the same thing - I saw some of these on CL recently and was wondering what a good price would be for one.  They are too small for me with a family of 6, but it might work for others.

As a side note, there were some decent Spirits on CL a few weeks ago that I missed - one looked great, with a  cover for about $200 OBO.

Thanks for all the advice.  Pretty much confirms what I've been thinking.  I've also considered a few Napoleon grills as well but I'm aware us Yankees aren't as familiar with them.  I've put a small new member info in the PBC forum thought it was for the whole site. You guys are great I've pretty much only lurked before. I can stretch my budget to $800 or so but the target was $600. And yes, in a perfect world I'd have the Genesis 3 burner with side burner but I want it 150 cheaper than they wanna sell it to me for.(ok who's kidding in a perfect world,it's a Kalamazoo all day but I can also have a used car for that price) Such is life. Thanks again. I'm in Indiana and the craigslist is pretty slim pickings as they say

Ok new dilemma. The weber performer platinum/deluxe is now a dark horse. Flavor of coals with somewhat of a gas convenience. Thoughts??

I love my performer. I basically traded my Weber gasser for the Performer. I had never cooked on charcoal, but got bit by the bug.
Gas is convenient, but I got bored with it. I like the range of things I can do with charcoal.

When you look at Weber "kettle" style grills/cookers....it  probably not an exaggeration to say that there is MORE support, and more accessories ( MANY 3rd party - like 2 of our sponsors here on LTBBQ  - namely Fire Butler and CRAYCOURT ) than any other single outdoor cooking appliance ever made. They are the most successful design in the outdoor cooking world - and for great reason. Versatility, like Pappy pointed to.

I prefer flavor - and you can get some with gas *IF* you pre-cold smoke using an Amazen Smoker tube or box ( see our site sponsor Amazen Products ) but is is different with charcoal.

Many of us end up with multiple cookers.
I encourage you to get non disposable cookers.
The other alternative to weber in gassers is broil King / Mate
They have cast aluminum firebox & easily available parts

On my small deck at this townhouse I have an The Big Easy "oil less turkey fryer"that  I use a lot. A two burner Char-Broil two burner Infrared grill (not my favorite appliance), A Weber Performer and a 3 burner Camp Chef gas stove. I use the gasser for quick cooks like some burgers or hot dogs, I use the Weber for longer cooks, I will be doing two slabs of Baby Back ribs tomorrow. The Big Easy is a very versatile cooker/roaster and the gas stove is my favorite cooking device.

Thanks again guys!! The dark horse for the win!! Ordered the Crimson performer yesterday.  Replacing a broil king regal and adding to my PBC (which I love). Just wanted to be able to hit high temps for faster cooking items a lil more conveniently than with my PBC..  Can't the 2 more days to fire it up. Had found a good deal on a sp-330 but charcoal flavor kept callin my name!

I have the  GrillGrates from my  BK I'm hoping that 2 of em will rise in the middle of the kettle for direct searing. If not, no biggie I'll definitely buy the ones to fit.  I absolutely loved them on my gasser.  Considered buying the 18.5 gg instead so I could also use them on my PBC? Thoughts?
