Post July 4th Dinner
« Reply #-1 on: July 07, 2014, 12:12:37 AM »
My brother and his boys were here for the 4th. Now, I need to try some things... I am testing a new electric smoker... can't say much about it, but need to put it through its paces. So today I am doing a porterhouse steak (smoked then grilled) a couple of burgers with cheese and bacon, finished on the grill. An onion loiipop.

Set the smoker to 225 and used some apple and red oak for smoke. Oh my this was good. Tasted the steak - it was excellent. Had the burger for dinner with the onion. Will use the steak for a salad tomorrow. The taste of smoke was perfect and finished just right on the grill.

Very nice job buddy!  Everything looks great!  I like the idea of the grilled lemon. My Italian grandma always put a bit of EVOO and a squeeze of lemon on steaks that she cooked.   :P

I would have loved your grandma. It may not "seem" right, but a squeeze of lemon just adds a bright note and seems to bring out the taste of the meat even more. I've found smoking or grilling them makes them fit the steak or burger even more.

You bet! This will be the first place I talk about it. I don't know the price yet, but so far I am really liking it. It has four grates, looks like you can configure it for about any type of cook. Digital controls, temp on control matches the cabinet temp. Has a built in probe - can cook to time or temp of what you are smoking. Easy water pan and  smoke box. Very easy to clean up. Nice door and latch... unless it costs a fortune, I am really liking it so far.
