Belts and suspenders
« Reply #-1 on: July 17, 2014, 08:09:02 PM »
My daughters had a bunch of friends over tonight. I asked what they wanted for dinner - brats! Instant panic! Thinking of Pappy's thread - do I simmer first or after...? The pressure was almost too much to bear. So, I opted for belts and suspenders, I'd do it both ways!

I chopped up an onion and bell pepper, added to a few bottles of red ale (ok - non- alcoholic, all that was available in the store) some Worcestershire sauce and added some W.O.W. - it just seemed right. Actually, the W.O.W. really added a great note, will be a regular from now on. Brought to a boil and added the brats - let them simmer for about 30 minutes before putting on the grill. Belts....

Grilled over charcoal until done on all sides and dumped them back into the hot tub - suspenders...

Not a fancy dinner, but very flavorful. Kids loved it and went off to softball and baseball practices. BTW - that's El Diablo Mango Mustard - sweet with a nice kick!

The only thing wrong with that dinner David is we need to get you making your own brats. Once you start you will be hooked. There are some very good brat makers on this forum and I am sure once you taste home made you will never go back. Just like homemade bacon.............there is no return  ;)

David those look so good, by time I was done I'd need a pair of suspenders, cause me belt wouldn't fit anymore.

Somehow I can't imagine YOU being in a panic...especially over food.
just sayin'...

The whole plate looks good.   I'm thinking immersion blender when I look at the pot on the stove.   How could we serve all that wonderful goodness?

Thanks. And, making sausage (especially brats) is on my list for learning this fall / winter (once softball is done!) I look forward to learning from you and several other members.

Those brats look great!

I want to personally thank Pappy for pushing the boil/simmer beer method for cooking brats. So many people have been straight grilling and cooking them incorrectly. He stood his ground and we appreciate it! 8)
