All the reasons given in the link are correct; however, it left out one very important factor---the diversion of a tremendous amount of corn from feed to ethenol. A substance that lowers your gas milage and harms many engines.
Interesting point, Dee. I was in Belize several years ago - there was a shortage of corn tortillas because the corn in Mexico was being sold for ethanol. So, a staple food for a culture was skyrocketing in price to subsidize a government program. Corn tortillas were not only incredibly expensive - they were being rationed at the store - crazy!
