The Star Spangled Banner...a clarification
« Reply #-1 on: October 28, 2014, 09:56:04 PM »
As all of y'all know September 12, 2014 was the 200th anniversary of the writing of the Star Spangled Banner (Don, that means it was written September 12, 1814).  Over the years some of my fellow Southerns have come to misunderstand the last line of the Star Spangled Banner.

The last line is, "O'er the land of the free, and the home of the brave."  It is not, "O'er the land of the free, and the home of the brave...Gentlemen, Start your engines."

Dee - I know of 1 localized exception...the baseball lovin'  "good 'ole boys" in Atlanta... they believe that the last line is ...."And the home of the BRAVES.... ;) :D"

Then I guess that means it's not, "O'er the land of the free, and the home of the brave...PLAY BALL ! ! !" either.
