Changing tastes
« Reply #-1 on: December 27, 2015, 11:30:39 AM »
Not good news :(
I used to like smoked meat from a WSM , UDS or kamodo as much or more than an offset, I actually liked a little charred fat taste!
Well for the last year the smoked meat from a vertical smoker where the fat dripping vaporize has begun to taste BAD!
Not cooking differently just don't like the taste anymore.
It's a bummer, my offset is great in warm dry weather but my kamodo will cook in cold weather in a rainstorm & just chug along.
Gotton so bad I'm thinking of getting a cheap pellet grill & a good welding blanket :'(

I know exactly what you mean LA. I agree with Sparky......let the pellet bug bite ya. The taste is woodsy yet clean.

You really can't beat this Camp Chef model for 349.99....and you get a free cover and free freight delivery......

Thus far - I like both. And I think having both may help prevent "burnout" of our taste buds for one or the other.   LA - have you been using briquettes? I ask because - I find that the taste of lump is cleaner, and milder than briquettes. I am not saying one is better than the other - I think they have their place in fire starting, temp control, etc...but - I think good quality hardwood lump can get better.

Like this:  http://bdcharwood.com/charwood/

Some of our members here have reported that they really get good results with it - so I think it may be worth your investigation.
HighOnSmoke ( Mike ) has been using it - as has Troy from Fire Butler, so maybe we can get their comments on it as well.

LA,
This may explain why so many of us have several types of cooking "tools".  As least, that is my story, and I am sticking to it!

I also go through the same issues. It's good to switch between grills.

Hey LA, haven't gotten there yet myself, but, I can see where it could happen.  In that case, I'd be asking for some pellet pooper advice as well.
