I have a Vortex and do like it but can offer another option for great grilling as well but at about 1/2 the cost of the Vortex that does a fine job with most backyard grilling on any Weber 18-1/2” and larger.
The part is a Culina Stainless Steel vegetable and BBQ basket from Amazon at $19.95 that measures 15X11X2 inches which is the perfect size to match the standard Grill Grate pair which measures 13-3/4 by 10-1/2 inches. I use this for my charcoal basket.
This is the basket loaded with hot lump charcoal in a 18-1/2” kettle. Notice how close to the cooking grate this basket is sitting.
This is a standard pair of Grill Grates over the top of this charcoal basket.
Sears a nice steak at this close distance.
And for many, who still own one of the great Weber 6560 large cast iron griddles, it is as well an exact fit for this charcoal griddle at 13-1/2 by 10-1/8 inch wide.
To use in the larger Weber kettles, I just roll up four pieces of tin foil into some balls to raise this basket all the way up to my cooking grid or find something else suitable for this task to sit the basket on.
Of course, you do have to cut the handles off of the basket to use it in your Weber kettle....
