Clearing the Auger in my GMG-Daniel Boone
« Reply #-1 on: September 12, 2016, 06:33:50 PM »
This is what I call great Customer Service.  I wrote to GMG about clearing the Auger for storage and got a very prompt response.  Here's the question & answer. Maybe it will help others.  Their reply is first, then my original question is below the answer.

GMG replied:
Hello,
You can run it on 0 stage for a bit and then turn it off before it gets to 1. If you repeat that process- You will clear the auger.

Hi, I recently bought a Daniel Boone GMG and when shutting down and storing the grill. How do I get all of the pellets out of the auger? Is there a way to run it without firing up the grill?

Thanks,

It's sitting for the next week, and I'm not clearing the auger, but a week after that, it will sit for a couple of months and then I'll try that.  If I catch it early, maybe it won't bind up.
Thanks,
Keith

Keith, you know with the low humidity where you live, it may not be as big of a problem as you might think! But it's always better to be safe rather than sorry!

I would want to clear the auger even if I had to fire it up. With my Traeger I have to burn them off to empty it. Caution though don't leave the heat shield off to watch it burn! When I did that I watched it then shut the lid to finish burning and the temp with just an auger load went to over 700 deg.! I burnt the paint on my stack!
I had a guy call me that had a Traeger mini and had let it set over winter in his barn. The auger was froze up and had to tear apart to clear it. Don
