No. Infrared steak searing is a wonderful technique and having the capability to flash sear is nice, but it does not impart the grilled flavor that GG's do. I like IR for really tender cuts that need minimal cooking (e.g. prime beef) and that lend themselves to very rare service. GG's, on the other hand work well for any meat, but I use mine mostly for hamburgers, steaks, and chops. They get very intense heat very close to the meat, causing "splatter" back (my scientific term for "flavor") and (fringe benefit) gorgeous grill marks. I don't know if it is still there or not but there used to be a pretty good explanation of the effect on the GG web page.
