The nice thing about being on vacation and your wife isn’t, is you get to sleep late and get up and make yourself a decadent breakfast. This is just a kicked up version of French toast. Here we go.
The players. And fyi I forgot the vanilla in the picture. Also I baked the bread about three days ago as I wanted it to get old.
Marinate the sliced strawberries in Grand Marnier and sugar for about 30 minutes. Mix the rest of the ingredients to make the custard. Add some S&P. Just about ready.
Preheat the oven to 250. Cut the bread about 1 inch or thicker. Depending on how thick you cut your bread soak in custard till it almost falls apart.
Sauté in butter till golden brown, drain and then into the oven for 20-30 minutes. This is very important as the custard in the bread needs to set.
When done cut and drizzle with maple syrup. Dust with powdered sugar, add the strawberries and a dollop of fresh whipped cream.
Dig in!
Enjoy!
