When in Rome..
« Reply #-1 on: June 19, 2013, 09:50:29 AM »

MrsSTC and I have our 20th anniversary later this year.  So we decided to celebrate early with some friends of ours, and head back to Italy.   We hiked along the Amalfi coast.   Yes, really.  On foot.  Up and down hills.  (our baggage traveled ahead of us by car  ;))

Just some random shots.  I have over 600 pictures from the trip.   Many will induce vertigo..    :o

The obligatory Trevi Fountain.  With people's heads in the way.

Enough of the tourist crowds.  Time for some food!

Fried anchovies.   Seriously.   And they were fantastic...    I think we had anchovies almost every day over there.

Up into the hills in Ravello.

Looking down.

Vineyards.

Greta Garbo came here to hide out for a while.

Looking WAY down.   Those are lemon groves.

Wait, how do they get the harvest out of there?    Old school..

Many hours later.   Time to eat again!

We opted to catch a bus back up to Ravello.   Hiking a 1000 feet up in the driving rain wasn't an option.

Next day, a gut wrenching ride down the coast.

... to see some Greek ruins in Paestum.

And get some *real* Buffalo Mozzarella.

More clouds.  We'll see the sun one of these days.

Limencello shots.   Wow.

Another hike up into the clouds.

And somehow I wandered off of the trail, and onto a goat path.  (where I promptly slipped and fell)

Some our friends guided us down with the sounds of their bells.

Another car ride, another day.   Back up into the hills for a 10K hike to Positano.

Amalfi Coast Taxi.   ;D

Getting closer.

Quick picnic stop with a bottle of wine and some airplane peanuts.

Narrow trail.  Yikes.

Positano.

Finally...   Time for some protein.   Pork chop, chicken, German style sausage, and rabbit.

And we still have to get down there.    Time for another bus ride.   :D

View from the hotel terrace, with a cold beverage.

We decided the 'hiking' from now on would between shops/restaurants/bars.  I was getting tired of stepping in goat poo.

Oh my!

Heh...

Boat trip to Capri.   Doesn't everyone look thrilled?   We caught the next boat *back* to Positano.

Pickled/marinated anchovies on garlic bread.   Yum....

Followed by a 550 foot climb back to the hotel.  Oh my aching feet.

Sorrento.   Finally, a town that is *flat*.     Fish & Chips!

Watching the sunset.

Morning coffee with Mount Vesuvius.

Late morning beer.  It was Noon.  Somewhere.    ;)

Pizza!

Dive beach bar.  And I mean dive.

Fishermen tending to their nets.

Back to Rome to catch a flight the next morning.   Had to get in one more fried anchovies fix, with some frites.

Good times...

Great pics, Catsquirter!  Thanks for sharing them.

I lived in Europe for several years and have been back on job assignments several times.  Saw some of the same parts of the country and loved a lot of it.  Italian drivers are most interesting -- they'll pull into the middle of the intersection, then look both ways to see if anyone is about to hit them  ::)

The Buffalo cheese is simply the best. Love Italy and loved the pics Squirt.

We're going back next year for our 25th, and we're going to Amalfie too.

Great pic's, travel some but I only get to see airports and the job site.

Q: I am the curious George, why the Canadian flag in the glass?

Thanks for posting.

Q: I am the curious George, why the Canadian flag in the glass?

The bartender said they were out of US flags, and he wanted to dress up the olives a bit with some Red, White and Blue.   :D

Great picts!  I never saw fried anchovies when I was over there.  We love anchovies around our house.  I may have to look into trying them some time.

Great pictures Pat! Just beautiful!

Funny I did not see one Moretti glass in your pics. They really push Peroni there ;)
