Deb called me and told me I would be cooking the Sweet Italian Sausages for supper this evening.
When I got home from work, I went out to the deck and started heating up the gasser, then went in to change my clothes.
When I went back out to the deck it hit me...DUH...I have a Weber kettle grill. I turned off the gas and went for the charcoal. After getting 'em hot in the chimney, I dumped 'em in the charcoal "boats" on the grate down below and covered the kettle whilst I went in for the sausage. I had good heat so I put the sausage on and started cookin' . Well, as they cooked, they started drippin' a bit on those hot coals. Then the smoke came over me real good.
Deb came out to see what was takin' so long, and I told her, "I really enjoy cookin' over an open fire like this." After all this time, watchin' from the deck as I cook out back, I think she understands how I feel about it. She is happy when I am happy and doesn't begrudge my time spent by the fire - whether it is gas, charcoal, or wood. She realizes it is therapy for me and lets me take my time at it.
When I came in with the sausage, ready for supper, she gave me a hug. Then she said, "I like the way you smell."
I have a great wife!
