I was raised in middle Tennessee, and my family, at least four generations that I know of, always considered having blackeyed peas, greens, pork, and cornbread on New Years day the meal for good luck the following year. I have lived here in California for 43 years, but I always continue this tradition,,,,,,, and I consider myself and my family very lucky.
Kicked up blackeyed peas:
Turnip and mustard greens:
Homemade cornbread:
Plated with pork shoulder that I had smoked/cooked previously, and Cabernet wine made from grapes grown on my Ranch.
The blackeyed peas and greens were cooked with smoked ham hocks. The meal was great and the first of my good luck for the year.
