Those look like the old bed springs that where on the beds from the 40-50's. My dads camp had beds like that. No wonder my back is shot  ;D

My Dad's grill was the size of that first panel with the rolled up sausages on it. It would cook up a lot of chicken.

Jack , You've got it and I have a picture to prove it.  We didn't have no sausages though.  I don't remember us thinking about smoking sausages even though Daddy make some great ones with my supervision of course.  Dang, I wish I had paid more attention to how we were doing them rather than thinking about what I'd be chasin' as soon as he let me loose.  I did a lot of chasin' and little catchin'.  Dee

You know I have invested lots of money in my BBQ arsenal or "toys" and I could have just
got some old bed springs or as in Dee's photo some heavy duty fencing wire and saved lots.
But I don't think my neighbor want me "borrowing" their fences to grill on.  8) ??? ;D

Thanks Tommy. That's hog fence wire stung over some welded pipes. Daddy was always in charge of these cooks. There's a raised fire off to the side separately that drops coals which are shoveled out and spread under the meat whenever the pit master felt there were morel coals needed.  My problem when I was young was wanting to add coals too often.  Never saw a thermometer.  It was just experience.  Would have been great if Daddy could have lived to see all this stuff we have today.  Dee

I was just thinking the same thing, a little redneck engineering and I could have saved a whole bunch of $$$$ on cooking gear.  But then again that would spoil the fun out of going to Costco, Sam's Club, Lowe's, Home Depot, Bass Pro Shops, and Cabela's.  ;)
