It was another typical spring day for me, the wife went to water aerobics this afternoon and the grandson was playing on the PC. I wanted to get some of my outdoor work done plus have a good meal tonight. I had about a quart and a half of my kraut left so thought I would see what I could find in the freezer and do it in the crockpot. This would easy and not much prep.
I found 4 pieces of smoked sausage, two Italian brats, and some kasslers ham. I threw those on the Traeger to smoke for two hours to thaw and get some smoke. While those were on I got a smoke bush trimmed and some dead stuff out of my peony tree. Now I was not moving too fast!
The meat would be ready at 12:00 so I got the crockpot out. I sprayed it with a little olive oil and made a layer of onions and some garlic. I topped that with the meat, a little over a half quart of the kraut with juice, salt, fresh ground pepper and a half pint of Yuengling lager beer. I set the crockpot on low and that would all be happy by supper time.
I had two barberry bushes that needed trimmed but started raining so that was out. It was a good time to move my fridge out and take up the tile getting ready for a new kitchen floor the next week. My floor now is acrylic tiles, 12 inch. It still looks new; I would get the same but they don’t make it anymore! It came up easy so was not much work. I want to move the stove and take that up too then the day before I can easily do the rest of the floor.
I was just ready for a beer break when the exterminator called and would be here in 10 minutes. I have been fighting carpenter bees in my one section of redwood privacy fence and my workshop for years with no luck. It was time for the exterminator! I sat and sipped on a beer and chatted with the guy while he did his work. He was here about a half hour and $117, they do guarantee their work for 3 months, if I see any they will come back and retreat for free.
I moved the fridge back and had a couple of hours to clean myself up and relax before supper. At 4:00 I boiled some Bavarian style spaetzel to add to the pork and kraut the last hour. The daughter in law came a little after 5:00 to get her son, they didn’t want to stay for supper, missed a great meal!
It was about 5:30 when I, nuked the mashed potatoes and served supper. The wife had a garlic knot with hers; I had a butter milk biscuit with a little butter! I had the kraut and noodles over the potatoes, a piece of ham, an Italian brat and a smoked sausage with some German mustard. It sure tasted good and one of my favorite meals!
