Cell Phone Etiquette
« Reply #-1 on: August 25, 2013, 08:53:33 AM »

After a tiring day, a commuter settled down in his seat and closed his eyes.
As the train rolled out of the station, the young woman sitting next to him pulled
out her cell phone and started talking in a loud voice:

"Hi sweetheart. It's Sue. I'm on the train.
Yes, I know it's the six-thirty and not the four-thirty, but I had a long meeting.
No, honey, not with that Kevin from the accounting office. It was with the boss.
No sweetheart, you're the only one in my life. Yes, I'm sure, cross my heart!"

Fifteen minutes later, she was still talking loudly.
When the man sitting next to her had enough, he leaned over and said into the phone,
"Sue, hang up the phone and come back to bed."

Sue doesn't use her cell phone in public any longer.

It's amazing how many people when they are on a cell phone act like they are in one of the  old time phone booths with the door.

Good one!

Slightly off topic, I make it a habit to completely ignore the phone (any phone) when I'm visiting with someone in my office.  The only exception I make is when I get a call from my son on deployment; his calls are rare and cherished, and I will stop all of my activities for them.

Interestingly visitors often say "Do you need to get that?" to which I reply, "No, I'm having a conversation with you".  Quite often they are astounded that I would put my visit with them above a phone call, and I need to explain to them that just because the phone rings does not make that communication more important than what I am currently doing with them.

Although I'm not sure how this got started, perhaps it was a mindset that was created decades ago when phone calls were made only under emergency circumstances, I don't know.  Doesn't explain the rudeness of the younger crowd though.  I guess I'm just a cranky old codger.

Remember the big glass phone booths that used to be on every street corner? They all just vanished. I can't recall ever seeing one removed.......kinda scary......

It's those people in the grocery isles that are standing there talking and you think there talking to you so you reply and then they give you a dirty look and they turn and have one of those Sputniks sticking out of there ear. That's happened to me more than once.
